Biography

Founded in 2008 through the support of benefactors Gloria and Chuck Clough, the Clough Center for the Study of Constitutional Democracy promotes scholarly research, public engagement, and interdisciplinary education on the principles and challenges of constitutional governance. The Center’s mission is to foster a vibrant intellectual environment at Boston College, provide transformative educational experiences for students, and contribute meaningfully to public discourse on democratic institutions in the United States and abroad.

Taking a holistic and global approach, the Center sponsors conferences, fellowships, lectures, and research initiatives across law, political science, history, philosophy, and related fields. Its programs encourage thoughtful engagement with pressing issues such as civic participation, constitutional interpretation, political polarization, and global democratic resilience.
