Historical Note
In 1972, Dean James Kelley, initiated the creation of a Management Institute. The goals of the Institute included support for seminars (especially the Boston Citizen Seminar), "executive development programs, and the preparation and administration of research grants and contracts within the School of Management."
The first director James E. Richard, also began an outreach program to keep School of Management alumni informed and active in the School. In 1979, the Management Institute became the Management Center. The Management Center continued to add services in the 1980s, forming a Small Business Development Center in 1981 and an International Marketing Institute in 1983.
