Boston College. Office of Human Resources
Biography
During the fall of 1989 the Director of Human Resources was promoted to a vice presidency. The lines of reporting remained the same during this transition, with the Vice President for Human Resources continuing to report to the Executive Vice President.
The position of the Director was originally established in 1968, but at that time the title was Director of Personnel. The name changed from the Director of Personnel to the Director of Human Resources in 1984. At its inception, employee relations, benefits, and development were the most important responsibilities of the area. At that time, the director reported to the Financial Vice President.
As the structure of the university grew more complex, the reporting lines of the Personnel Department evolved. During the time period that the Vice President of Financial and Business Affairs existed (1976-1978), the Director of Personnel reported to him. From 1979-1985 the director reported to the Vice President and Treasurer. Since 1986, the director has reported directly to the Executive Vice President.
Today, the Office of Human Resources oversees the following departments: Benefits, Children’s Center, Compensation, Employee Development, Employee Relations, Employment, Human Resources Service Center, and the Office for Institutional Diversity.
