 Organization

Biography

Xocomil was an initiative formed in 1989 aimed at bringing together administrators, faculty, and students to discuss diversity-related issues and concerns. Its membership was committed to enhancing multicultural perspectives in research, curriculum, and student life. Its first program, titled “Communicating Across Differences,” was held at Voute Hall. Over a dozen students chatted with Prof. Brinton Lykes (SOE) and Asst. Prof. Lisa Jackson (SOE), as well as several Housing administrators and staff, about the abundant mix of culture and ethnicity within the Boston College community. Over the course of the decade, Xoxomil sponsored numerous lectures and events featuring scholars, artists, activists, and writers from across the country, including noted authors such as Amy Tan. By 1997. Xocomil was replaced by new campus initiatives.
