Historical Note

Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) was founded in 1922 as a non-profit organization to promote the importance of world health and further academics and research, service, and leadership in nursing. Sigma has supported nurses through funding for research, education and research conferences, continuing education, and grants and awards. The Alpha Chi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau was founded at the Boston College Connell School of Nursing in 1970, becoming the forty-fourth chapter.
