Historical Note

Sigma Theta Tau International was founded in 1922 as an honor society of nursing. It is a non-profit organization that promotes the importance of world health and furthers academics and research, service, and leadership in nursing. Sigma Theta Tau supports nurses through funding for research, education and research conferences, continuing education, and grants and awards.

The Alpha Chi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau was founded at Boston College Connell School of Nursing in 1970, becoming the forty-fourth chapter. The Alpha Chi chapter produces biannual newsletters and hosts programs and events exploring topics in health and nursing and honoring those who have exemplified leadership and commitment. The chapter is also dedicated to research and allows members to submit research for symposiums, grants, and awards.
