Biography
Minutes retained for the Faculty Council begin February 16, 1961. The Council was a representative body elected by and from the faculty, created to foster faculty participation in university affairs by serving in an advisory capacity to the President on matters of common concern to the university administration and faculty.
The Council was composed of nine members: one each from the College of Business Administration, the Law School, the School of Education, the School of Social Work, the School of Nursing, and the School of Theology, and one from each of the three divisions of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences faculty - Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. Council members served two-year terms. The Council's executive - a chairperson, vice-chairperson, and secretary - served one-year terms. The Council reported to the President three times a year on matters concerning faculty and university relations.
The Faculty Council remained active as of September 1980, when the newly formed University Academic Council was established alongside it to replace the University Academic Senate.
