Biographical note

Twentieth century French language pedagogue Rebecca Valette joined the Boston College faculty in 1965 as professor of French and director of the Language Laboratory. She taught courses in foreign language pedagogy, as well as French language and phonetics, and her research focused primarily on applied linguistics, specifically second language testing and acquisition. A charter member of the Boston College Phi Beta Kappa chapter (1970), she was also instrumental in establishing the Boston College chapter of the French honor society Pi Delta Phi (1997) and constructing the Boston College Memorial Labyrinth (2003). She retired from Boston College in 2003. With her husband, Jean-Paul Valette, she has authored over twenty widely-used French and Spanish college and secondary school textbooks. They also have published two books on Navajo art with ceremonial themes and have curated three museum exhibits of Yeibichai weavings.
