Biographical Note

George F. Smith, born in Upton, Massachusetts, earned A.B. and M.A. degrees at Woodstock College and was ordained in Italy (1927). He travelled and studied throughout Europe and earned a Ph. D. from the Gregorian University in Rome (1928). He taught modern languages, European history, and church history at Weston College and Boston College. Smith was a distinguished linguist who read and spoke ten languages. He was passionate about horticulture and fishing. Smith died in 1962.
