Biographical Note

Susan Mary "Lily" Yeats was born in 1866, in Sligo, Ireland. In 1900 Lily and her sister Elizabeth moved to Dublin. In 1902 they helped to found the Dun Emer Press, and in 1908 they began their own business, Cuala Industries. She died in 1949.

Two copies. The booklet contains a reprinting of an article from the Birmingham Post, "The Cuala Press in Ireland: A Woman's Contribution to Fine Printing" plus a listing of hand-colored prints and books in preparation. One copy also contains a hand-written note "Given to May Courtney [maybe] by Lily Yeats, March 6, 1940".

Though less present in the correspondence, some materials were also sourced from Molly Gill, the Press's principal compositor, who continued to produce the press's cards and prints until 1968. The Boston College collection of Yeats family papers includes artwork, correspondence, manuscripts, notebooks, and photographs by and about siblings W. B., Elizabeth Corbet, Lily, and Jack B. Yeats; their father, John Butler Yeats; the wife of W. B., Georgie Yeats; the daughter of W.B., Anne Yeats; and the son of W.B., Michael B. Yeats. It also documents the running of Cuala Press, a Yeats family business.
