Biographical Note
Chrysandra "Sandy" Lou Walter grew up in Palo Alto, CA, and graduated from San Jose State University with a BA degree in Park Administration and Recreation Management. She is a graduate of the Harvard John F. Kennedy School of Government Senior Executive Fellows Program.
From 1984 until 1992, Sandy served as the Superintendent of the Lowell National Historical Park. At the park, she oversaw major capital development including the rehabilitation of the Boott Mill to be the park museum and the establishment of the Tsongas Industrial History Center. The Tsongas Center program was so successful that school classes visited from all over the country. Working in collaboration with Joe Wilson, former director of the National Council for Traditional Arts, Sandy hosted, with the City of Lowell and the Regatta Committee, the Lowell National Folk Festival.
At the time of her retirement, Sandy was the Northeast Deputy Regional Director with oversight responsibilities for all the national parks and park service programs in 13 states. Walter died 2011 of cancer and was survived by her husband, musician Seamus Connolly.
