Biographical Note

Nathalia Clara Ruth Crane was born in 1913, in Brooklyn, New York. She was a poet and novelist, who became famous as a child prodigy after the publication of her first book of poetry, The janitor's boy, at the age of ten. Dubbed "the Brooklyn Bard" by the time she was an early teenager, she became part of the Louis Untermeyer poetry circle in New York. She was elected into the British Society of Authors, Playwrights, and Composers in 1925 and later became a professor of English at San Diego State University. She died in 1998.

Abstract

This collection includes several letters from twentieth-century American poet and author Nathalia Crane to the poet Louis Untermeyer, as well as photographs, publications, and programs she sent to him. Most of the material relates to Crane's support for Irish political prisoners at Long Kesh prison.
