Samuel Cunningham (1862-1946) was a stockbroker, a chairman of the newspaper the Northern Whig, and a member of the Privy Council in Ireland; of the Ulster Unionist Council; and of the Senate of the Parliament of Northern Ireland.

Abstract

Scrapbook consists of annotated clippings from the Northern Whig, a paper in Belfast of which Samuel Cunningham was chairman for a time. The clippings in this volume are by pseudonymous authors including “Asmodeus,” ‘Merlin, and “Old Fogey,” possibly Cunningham himself. Topics discussed range from Home Rule, World War I, the Titanic, suffragists, elections, unions, Churchill, and the political situation in Ulster, to coupons, waiters, and margarine.
