Biographical Note

Mary E. MacDonald was born in 1918, in Westborough, Massachusetts. She graduated from Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in 1942, earned a master's degree from Columbia University's Teacher's College in 1950, and also studied at Harvard University Graduate School of Education, Catholic University, and Boston College. MacDonald taught nursing at Boston College, Worcester City Hospital, and the University of Massachusetts, before taking a position at Massachusetts General Hospital's School of Nursing, where she worked as Director from 1968 until her retirement in 1983. She died in 2000.
