Biographical Note

Mary Doyle Evans, wife, Irish domestic, and immigrant to Canada. Evans (1823-1880), along with her mother, served as a domestic to the Persse family. She married Joseph Evans III (1823-1897) in 1848 and immigrated to western Canada (now part of Ontario) with her husband's family the same year to escape the bleak conditions of the Irish famine.

Abstract

This collection documents the Doyle, Evans, and Persse families, nineteenth-century immigrants to North America from County Galway, Ireland. Materials include correspondence, land deeds, naturalization papers, and military records. Family recollections, genealogies, and other research compiled by Jessie Evans Dugan and James Charles Roy is included.
