Biographical Note

isaac Plumb, Jr. was born in 1842, one of three children born to Isaac Plumb, Sr. and Catharine Eliza (Grant) Plumb. His brother was the painter Henry Grant Plumb (1847-1930). Isaac Plumb, Jr. enlisted in 1861 in the 61st New York Volunteer Infantry Regiment as a Union soldier in the Civil War. He participated in numerous major battles, including battles at Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Gettysburg. He died in 1864 in Washington, D. C. from wounds sustained at the Battle for Cold Harbor.
