Biographical note

Twentieth-century American higher education administrator, scholar, and woman religious Alice Gallin was born on December 30, 1921 in New York City to Alice and William Gallin. She graduated from the College of New Rochelle in 1942, and later earned a master's degree from Fordham University and PhD from The Catholic University of America. She joined the Ursuline Order in 1946. She served on the faculty and administration of the College of New Rochelle (1950-1978) and the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU) (1976-1992). She was instrumental in the implementation of Ex Corde Ecclesiae in the United States, and published and spoke extensively on the character and history of American Catholic higher education. She served on the Board of Trustees of Notre Dame University, Viterbo College, Iona College, and St. Bonaventure University, and was the first woman president of St. Bonaventure University (interim, 1993-1994). Gallin died on September 13, 2018 in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
