Biographical note
Stanley J. Bezuszka, SJ (1914-2008) was a mathematics professor and department chair at Boston College from 1939 until 2008. He earned a bachelor's and two master's degrees at Weston College and Boston College prior to his ordination. Two years after ordination in 1946, he was accepted into a doctoral program in theoretical physics at Brown University. After receiving a PhD from Brown in 1953, he returned to Boston College to teach mathematics and physics and serve as chair of the mathematics department.At one point the longest-serving faculty member at Boston College, he was also the co-founder and director of the Boston College Mathematics Institute (1947-2013) and a widely recognized leader of national efforts to improve American math and science education.
