Biographical note
Anthony John Mourek was born in 1943, in Chicago, Illinois. He married Karole Schafer, and they had one son, Michael. Mourek's interest in collecting political cartoons began with a childhood gift from his father. He was especially interested in the artwork of Arthur "Art" Young (1866-1943), but also collected other American and British cartoonists. Mourek was an active member of the Caxton Club of Chicago and the Manuscript Society, where he also served as president and a member of the board. He co-authored a chapter with Valerie Higgins for To Laugh That We May Not Weep: The Life and Times of Art Young (2017). Mourek died on September 12, 2021.

Irish political satire, ephemera, and artworks from the collection of twentieth-century American political cartoon enthusiast Anthony J. Mourek. The collection includes drawings, etchings, newspaper clippings, and to a lesser degree fliers and posters. Mourek also acquired materials relating to siblings Elizabeth Corbet, Jack B., Lily, and W.B. Yeats and their fine print press, Cuala Press.
