Biographical Note

Katherine E. Conway was born of Irish parents in Rochester, New York in 1853. She was educated in Rochester and Buffalo. After working as an editor and journalist in New York state, she joined the staff of THE PILOT in Boston, Massachusetts in 1883. In 1904, she became the paper's first female editor. In 1908, she became editor of The Republic. She was a leader in literary and Catholic circles around Boston, and helped found the League of Catholic Women. She died on January 2, 1927.
