Biographical Note
American legal writer and member of the bar association of the state of Maine. Greenleaf was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts. Upon the admission of Maine to the Union, he was elected to the legislature and later was appointed as a reporter of the Maine Supreme Court. In 1833, Greenleaf became a faculty member of the Harvard Law School. He also served for many years as the President of the Massachusetts Bible Society. He died in 1853 in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
