Biographical Note
Monk Gibbon was born in Dublin in 1896 and educated in Ireland and at Oxford. He was a poet and scholar, whose doctoral work focused on the writer AE (George Russell). Throughout his career as a teacher, Gibbon wrote poetry, travel books, criticism, novels and biography, and became a member of the Irish Academy of Letters and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. He died in 1987.

Correspondence and collected materials from and about Deane's friends, colleagues, and associated organizations. Includes many drafts of literary work sent to Deane for comment, both in his personal capacity and as editor of Dedalus Press.

This collection documents the life of Irish author Monk Gibbon through his correspondence and manuscripts held in the papers of two of his peers: his bibliographer Alan Denson and one of his early publishers Alan Steele. Also included are portraits of Gibbon and his family, which may have belonged to Denson.
