Biographical note

Edward Bernard Rooney was born in Buffalo, New York in 1900. He entered the Society of Jesus after graduating high school in 1918, and received degrees from Woodstock College (BA and MA, 1924-1925), and Gregorian University (PhD, 1932). He was president of the Jesuit Educational Association from 1937-1966. He served as educational specialist for Jesuit Missions, Inc. from 1966-1969 and overseas education consultant to the Jesuit Provincials of the American Assistancy from 1969 until about 1974. In the 1960s and 1970s Rooney also served the National Catholic Educational Association as specialist for internationl education, and represented the Catholic International Education Office (Office International de l'Enseignement Catholique, OEIC) to the United Nations.

Abstract

The records of the Jesuit Educational Association (JEA) document the organization, history, and goals of the Association and its members from its beginning in the early 1930s to its end in 1970. The records were produced and collected by the various commissions, conferences, executive offices, and institutions under or associated with JEA in the form of conference materials, correspondence, financial records, meeting minutes, news releases, photographs, reports, speeches, and surveys.
