Biographical note

Born at Lourdes, Bernadette Soubirous was the daughter of a miller. When she was fourteen years of age, she witnessed a series of apparitions of Mary, revealing the healing shrine at Lourdes. In 1866, she joined the Institute of the Sisters of Notre Dame at Nevers. Canonized in 1933.
