Biographical note
Nicolette Boilet was born at Corbie, in Picardy, in 1381, a carpenter's daughter. She tried her religious vocation with the Beguines and the Benedictines, but failed. Next she became a recluse at Corbie, and finally she found her vocation in reviving the Franciscan spirit among the Poor Clares. She was made superioress of the whole order, and her reform spread throughout France, Savoy, Germany and Flanders, many convents being restored and seventeen new ones founded by her. She helped Saint Vincent Ferrer in the work of healing the papal schism. She died at Ghent in 1447, and was canonized in 1807.
