Biographical note
A native of Muro in southern Italy, he was apprenticed to a tailor before asking to be received by the Redemptionists as a lay brother. He continued his trade in the monastery, where he soon attracted the attention of Saint Alphonsus de Liguori, who shortened his novitiate. He is credited with bilocations, reading of consciences, prophecies, multiplying of food, and other miraculous acts. Canonized in 1904.
