Biographical note
A courtier of Pepin of Heristal, Hubert, having lost his wife, entered the ecclesiastical state. Eventually he succeeded Saint Lambert as bishop of Maestricht, whence he transferred the see to Liège. He is venerated as the patron saint of hunters, having converted while on a hunting trip.
