John, the Baptist, Saint
Person
Biographical note
Described in all four Gospels as a forerunner and prophet of Jesus the Messiah, he was beheaded by King Herod. Patristic tradition maintains that John was freed from original sin and sanctified in his mother's womb; hence from early times the Church has liturgically celebrated his nativity as a feast.
