Biographical note

Born in Paris. She wished to become a nun, but on the advice of her confessor, married Antony Le Gras. After his death (1625), Louise spent the remainder of her life in cooperating with St. Vincent de Paul in the establishment of the Sisters of Charity. The sisters took their vows for the first time in 1638, and Louise remained their superioress till her death. Beatified in 1920, canonized in 1934.
