Biographical note

Marie Sainte-Cécile-de-Rome was born Dina Bélanger on April 30, 1897 in Québec to Olivier Octave Bélanger and Séraphia Matte. She became an accomplished pianist, studying in New York City and performing professionally between 1918 and 1921. In 1921, Bélanger became a Third Order Dominican and entered the Religieuses de Jésus-Marie, taking the religious name Marie de Sainte-Cécile-de-Rome. She contracted tuberculosis in 1924, and died in 1929. The Salle Dina-Bélanger, the Québec Music Festival Dina Bélanger, and the Collège Dina Bélanger in Saint-Michel-de-Bellechasse are named in her honor. She was beatified in 1993.
