Biographical note
Paolo Francesco Danei was born at Ovada in Piedmont in 1694. Inspired by a series of visions, he with some companions went to live the religious life on Mt. Argentaro, near Orbitello. In 1720, they received the habit of "Barefooted Clerks of the Cross and the Passion" (Passionists) from the bishop of Alessandria. In 1727, Paul was ordained priest in the Vatican basilica, and in 1747 the first general chapter of the new Congregation was held. Saint Paul lived to see its expansion throughout Italy before his death in 1775. Canonized in 1867.
