Simon, Apostle, Saint

 Person

Biographical note

In the gospels he is surnamed "the Cananean," i.e. "the Zealot." His name occurs only in the lists of the Apostles. The tradition of the West places the scene of his labors in Egypt and Mesopotamia, and there are several other different traditions among the Christians of the East.
