A priest and physician in Rome martyred under Claudius the Goth and buried on the Flaminian Way. In 350, a church was built over his tomb. The custom of sending "Valentines" on February 14 is based on the medieval belief that birds began to pair on the 14th of February, Valentine's feast day.
