Biographical Note

Hilda Roberts (1901-1982), Irish portrait artist, was born in Dublin on 12 March 1901 to Samuel and Elizabeth (Jackson) Roberts. She studied at the Metropolital School of Art, London Polytechnic, and the Grande Chaumiere Studio in Paris. She worked as an illustrator but was better konwn for her portraits. In 1932, she married Arnold Marsh. That same year she participated in the art competition of the Summer Olympics and won an Aonach Tailteann Exhibition Prize. She exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Irish Exhibition of Living Art in the 1940s and 1950s. She died on 18 June 1982.
