Biographical Note
Norah Allison McGuinness was born in County Londonderry, Ireland in 1901. She studied at the Dublin Metropolitan School of Art and Chelsea Polytchnic, in London, Enlgand. In the 1920s she worked as a stage designer for the Abbey and Peacock Theatres and an illustrator. She studied in Paris in 1929, and lived in London, then New York City in the 1930s as an artist, illustrator, and widow designer for the Altman's department store. She returned to Dublin, Ireland in 1939, where she continued to paint and design windowns. McGuinness helped found and lead the Irish Exhibition of Living Art (1943) and represented Ireland in the Venice Biennale (1950). Trinity College Dublin held a retrospective of her paintings in 1968 and awarded her an honorary doctorate in 1973.

Greeting cards, most hand-colored. Includes a complete run of the 153 numbered cards cataloged in the Cuala Press "Christmas Card List" (printed approximately 1950 according to Trinity College Dublin). The unnumbered cards include Christmas, Easter, and non-holiday cards. For many cards there is more than one copy, and the hand-coloring is unique on each. Some uncolored cards are also included, where noted.
