Biographical Note

Anna E. Hall was born near Bainbridge, Georgia in 1870. She attended Clark University (now Clark Atlanta University), graduating in 1892. Hall taught and served as a school principal in Florida and Georgia before attending the New England Deaconess Training School in Boston, Massachusetts in 1899 as their first Black student. She graduated on May 22, 1901. Hall worked as a Methodist deaconess in Atlanta for five years, and then moved to Liberia, where she taught and directed schools. She spent 25 years in Liberia before returning to Atlanta. Hall died in 1964.
