Biographical note

Originally from Oregon, Hanneke Cassel was a fiddle player, pianist, teacher, and composer who blended Scottish and Cape Breton musical influences with Americana stylings. She won the U.S. National Scottish fiddle championship in 1997, and, after graduating from the Berklee College of Music, she became a guest instructor in Berklee's American Roots department. She remained in the Boston area, continuing to tour, record, compose, and teach.

Scope and Contents From the Collection: Boston College Gaelic Roots Festival is primarily documented through audio and video recordings of music and dance performances and lectures. There are also extensive color snapshot photographs of the festival, and these include classes and workshops as well as concerts and lectures.
