Biographical note
Born in North Carolina, Tony Ellis was a five-string banjo and fiddle player and composer. His grandmother played banjo, and in the early 1960s he played with Bill Monroe’s Blue Grass Boys. He has recorded many albums and toured internationally. His music and compositions were featured in several Ken Burns documentaries and he was recognized with the inaugural Ohio Heritage Fellowship Award for Performing Arts in 2003.
