Biographical note
Bernard C. (Bernie) McCarthy, originally from County Roscommon, settled in the Boston area, where he helped to promote Irish culture. He was proficient on flute and whistle, recording an album in 1972 with the band The Fenian Folk. In 1973, with bandmate Henry Varian, he was a founder and emcee of the radio program, "Sound of Erin," which intially aired on WUNR-AM. He served as the 1988-89 president of the Eire Society of Boston.

Includes video recordings from two cameras in different locations (A and B). The audio quality for the first 25 minutes of the camera A video recording is poor, however the camera B and audio-only recordings are good.
The audio recordings on DTRS cannot be reformatted by Burns Library at this time and are not available for playback due to format impermanence. All audio and video recordings on DAT and mini-DV have been digitally copied and are accessible.
