Biographical note

Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh was a fiddle player and singer from County Donegal. A native Irish speaker, she was a founding member of the Irish music group Altan and has been a member of various other groups including String Sisters, T with the Maggies, SíFiddlers, and Na Mooneys. In the 1980s she helped establish Cairdeas na bhFidléirí (The Fellowship / Friendship of Fiddlers) to preserve the fiddle music of Donegal. In 2009 the Donegal Association named her the Donegal Person of the Year, and in 2018 she received the Gradam Ceoil from TG4.
