Biographical note
Originally from County Cork, Brian O'Donovan was widely known in Boston and New England as an event organizer, promoter, and radio show host for Irish music. After arriving in Boston around 1980, he earned a master's degree in mass communication from Emerson College. He held consultancy and managerial roles in connection with professional football before becoming the first general manager and chief operating officer of the New England Revolution soccer team. From 1986 to 2023 he hosted the radio program "A Celtic Sojourn" at WGBH in Boston. He utilized his background and experiences in creating and organizing music festivals and concerts in New England. In 2017, Boston mayor Marty Walsh declared December 14 "Brian O’Donovan Day" in recognition of his contributions to immigrant communities in Greater Boston.
