Biographical note

English poet Fiona Sampson was born in 1963 in London, England, and raised in the West Country. She studied violin at the Royal Academy of Music and language at Oxford University, and earned a PhD in the philosophy of language from Radboud University Nijmegen. She has taught poetry at the University of Roehampton and Harris Manchester College, Oxford. Sampson began publishing poetry in 1996, and has published five collections. She has also translated the work of other poets into English, particularly Jaan Kaplinski and Amir Or. She served as editor of Poetry Review from 2005 to 2012, and has been a member of the Royal Society of Literature, the English Association, and the Wordsworth Trust. She received an MBE for services to literature in 2017. She lives in Herefordshire with her husband and "a small menagerie" of sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, dogs, cats, and wild carp.
