Biographical note

Peter Sirr was born in Waterford, Ireland, in 1960, and grew up in Dublin. He graduated from Trinity College Dublin. He has published seven collections of poetry as well as radio plays and a novel for children. He has won the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Award (1982), the poetry prize at Listowel Writers' Week (1983), The O'Shaughnessy Award for Poetry (1998), and the Michael Hartnett Award (2011). He is a member of Aosdána. In addition to writing, he was the director of the Irish Writers' Centre from 1991 to 2002 and was editor of Poetry Ireland Review from 2003 to 2007. He also taught literary translation at University College Dublin. He married fellow poet Enda Wyley, and they had one daughter.
