Biographical Note

C.C. Martindale was an English Jesuit and author. He was born in 1879 in Bayswater, London, and converted to Catholicism and joined the Jesuits in 1879. He studied philosophy at Pope’s Hall (now Campion Hall), Oxford and later returned to Oxford University for a position in the sub-faculty of Litterae Humaniores. Martindale was in Denmark at the outbreak of the Second World War, and was held as a German detainee in Copenhagen until the war’s end. He published widely and supported a number of causes including liturgical renewal, missionary work, and the Apostleship of the Sea.
