Biographical Note
Bernard Partridge was born in London, England, in 1861. He was educated at Stonyhurst College, Lancashire, and later studied in the West London School of Art. In 1891, he joined the staff of Punch as a junior cartoonist. He acted under the name "Bernard Gould" and played the part of Sergius Saranoff in the 1894 performance of Shaw's "Arms and the Man." Partridge ceased acting and turned exclusively to drawing. He worked for Punch until his death in 1945.
