Biographical Note

Viola Meynell, daughter of poet Alice Meynell and editor Wilfred Meynell, was raised a Catholic. Her first novel, Martha Vine: A love story of simple life (1910), was published anonymously. She authored numerous novels, memoirs, and introductions, and served as editor for several collections of letters of publishing figures throughout her career. Meynell was married to John Dallyn with whom she had a son. Her final novel, Ophelia, was published in 1951. Meynell died in 1956.
