Biographical note
John S. Keating, SJ was born on November 13, 1870 in Charlestown, Massachusetts to Catherine (Mitchell) and John J. Keating, and received his early education at the Warren School, Charlestown, and Boston College High School. He attended Boston College on a scholarship, left the school to enter the Society of Jesus in 1890, and was ordained in 1902. Keating returned to Boston College in 1911 as an instructor in English, Latin, and Greek, and was appointed librarian of the college in 1935. He held the position of librarian until his death on March 20, 1945.

Collection consists of correspondence received by Jesuit, Boston College professor and librarian, John S. Keating, SJ. The bulk of the correspondence dates from Keating's time as a student at Boston College, and during his first year at the Society of Jesus Seminary.
