Scope and Contents

The medallions are original, limited editions of a work by University Artist-in-Residence Allison Macomber. They were given to recipients of the Boston College Presidential Bicentennial Award, which honored men and women who "represent the venerable American Jesuit Tradition of personal dedication, excellence, and service". They portray Sebastian Râle , SJ, scholar and missionary to the Abenaki people of Maine in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries compiling his dictionary of the Abnaki language under the guidance of an Abnaki leader. Includes two examples of unpresented medals, one of which is encased in a lucite block, and accompanying card describing the medallion.
