Historical note

The Student Recreation Complex or "Rec-plex" was completed in 1972 on Boston College's Chestnut Hill Lower Campus. Designed by Daniel Tully, it featured a unique "hyperbolic paraboloid" roofline with a series of peaks. In 1975 it was dedicated to Athletic Director William J. Flynn, a key figure in the original conception, planning, and construction of the Complex. Although slated for replacement in 1986 university planning documents, it endured until 2019, when it was replaced with the the Margot Connell Recreation Center (built on a site adjacent to the old Complex site).
