Scope and Contents
The records include papers, minutes, and correspondence of the Christian Scholars Group on Christian-Jewish Relations (CSG). Administrative materials include correspondence and enclosures, agendas, minutes, and membership lists. The content of the correspondence ranges from logistical notifications to in-depth discussions of current events and other relevant topics. Discussion materials include articles, essays, presentations, and discussion notes covering topics considered by CSG members in their biannual meetings. Many are written by group members explicitly for discussion at these meetings, while others were previously published by group members or others. Also included are papers distributed among group members for consideration between meetings.
Topics the CSG covered include: theological, historical, and political justifications for the modern state of Israel; a Christian theological basis for Christian-Jewish relations; antisemitism and anti-Judaism; Christian Zionism and philosemitism; Passion plays, particularly the one in Oberammergau, Germany; the Holocaust/Shoah and neo-Nazism; and Christian responses to contemporary political events involving Israel.
