Film-based photography, 1985-2003
Scope and Contents
Includes both photojournalism and commercial photography captured by Doyle on film.
Because Doyle's commercial work was largely for groups committed to community development, a topic she documented through her journalism as well, there is cross-over in content between the two sets of materials. However, the commercial work more generally documents the organizations themselves, while the journalism focuses on the communities.
All of the film-based photography is 35 millimeter. Doyle developed and printed her own black-and-white photographs. Contact sheets and negatives include her labels; however, she rarely labeled prints individually. The bulk of the black-and-white prints are 8x10", with fewer 11x14".
Doyle's color film was developed commercially. From approximately 2000 to 2003, she also had color prints of her commercial shoots made as approximately 6x9." Very rarely, Doyle also shot color 35mm positive transparency (chrome or slide) film, which she kept unmounted; most of this is in her Somalia and Northern Ireland journalism work.
